Workshop: Facebook Knew I Was Gay Before I Did
Nicola Osborne (they/them/she/her) is Manager of the Institute for Design Informatics at the University of Edinburgh, EDI and Industry Partnerships Lead for the new UKRI AI Centre for Doctoral Training for Responsible and Trustworthy in-the-world NLP, and a co-investigator of the AHRC-funded CoSTAR Real-Time Lab. Nicola also manages Creative Informatics, supporting creative people to do innovative things with data. They are also working on the EU-funded EKIP: Cultural and Creative Industries Policy Engine project, looking at key policy interventions to support innovation for the creative sector across Europe. Nicola is co-author of the Creative Informatics (CI) Ethics Statement and lead author of the CI Equalities, Diversity and Inclusion Policy and Action Plan, both published under open license and in use or adapted by other cultural organisations and projects. Nicola sits on the board of The Space, a UK digital arts CIC, is a member of the Turing Institute Humanities & Data Science Interest Group, and the Journal of Open Research Software’s Editorial Advisory Board. They are also a regular performer at the Cabaret of Dangerous Ideas, having performed shows about their work at the Edinburgh Fringe since 2013. Nicola is co-editor of the forthcoming book: Data Driven Innovation in the Creative Industries (Routledge, April 2024).
